Today's army is an educated army of young men and women in excellent physical condition. You will need a high school diploma to be accepted. If you only have one GED, that's fine, but you'll miss out on some promotions. 

If you have a GED plus at least 15 credit hours in college, your degree is worth the same as a diploma. Street geniuses are important to the armed forces, but you also need academics to complete many of today's military tasks.

The military isn't looking for supermen and women, but you have to be in good health and meet the usual physical requirements to be eligible. Although basic training will get you in the best shape possible of your life, you need to be in good physical shape to join in. 

Contrary to popular misconception, you don't need perfect vision to join the army and even work on airplanes. You must be at least 18 years of age to join the military, although the corps accept 17-year-olds with parental consent. 

Other military requirements also apply to soldiers: active-duty soldiers must be between 18 and 42 years old, reserves must be between 17 and 40 years old, and security guards must be between 17 and 35 years old.
